FARMVENTURE CAMP
AT OUR SENSORY FARM

Farmventure Camp is an inclusive, outdoor half-day program located at Our Sensory Farm in southern Chesapeake. Campers ages 3-14* are encouraged to join us and explore our unique 3 acre mini working farm and adventure forest. With a variety of hands-on activities, interactive experiences, sensory stations, art projects and farm animals, there is something for everyone to enjoy! Our goal is to create a supportive and accepting space in which our guests feel safe being their true selves while connecting with nature, neighbors and themselves.

We now offer 1-Day, 2-Day, 3-Day, and 5-Day options for attending Farmventure Camp. We are excited to offer this new flexible schedule as it enables us to better meet the needs of our community! With different themes and activities each session, there’s always something new for returning campers!

The most important feature of Farmventure Camp is that with two options available for attending, we are able to accommodate all abilities! Independent Campers are invited to attend Farmventure Camp without a chaperone. For the safety and well-being of everyone, Independent Campers are able to follow simple verbal directions, clearly state their needs and wants, use the restroom facilities independently and remain in a group setting without elopement or aggressive behaviors.

Assisted Campers are those who may need additional help while at Farmventure Camp in order to access the materials and fully participate. We invite parents, guardians, and caregivers to join us as chaperones and accompany their Assisted Campers at no additional cost. In order to maintain small group sizes, Assisted Campers can bring up to two chaperones each day.

*Please note: All 3, 4 and 5 year olds will be registered as Assisted Campers.

If you have questions about whether Farmventure Camp is appropriate for your child, please contact Shannon Wells at info@oursensoryfarm.com.

"I can’t say enough good things!  Shannon is amazing, creative, engaging, and accommodating.  Looking forward to booking a party since we attended camp this week.  12/10 stars will do it again!

“Declan had such a wonderful time at camp, he’s still talking about it! I had to pinky promise his younger brother that I would send him too next year. Thank you for all the time and effort you put into making your programs such a wonderful experience for all kiddos!"

–Becca H.

“For those who don’t know, my son is autistic and has his struggles when it comes to social skills and emotional regulation. I’ve wanted to enroll him in something to get him out of the house and have new experiences but couldn’t find anything that I thought would be a good match. One day, I stumbled across this camp called “Our Sensory Farm” and immediately knew that was the one. It was an inclusive camp geared towards those with special needs but not limited to them. I reached out to the camp owner to inquire about sending both kiddos since they fell into different age ranges. She was completely willing to make the exception for Abby to participate with her brother’s group. This was important to me since it allowed Dylan to have that sense of comfort knowing he had someone he knew with him. When I explained to Dylan the different themes per day and a quick breakdown of the camp and the different animals he seemed hesitant about it and didn’t know if he would enjoy it but agreed when I explained it was for kids like him. He thought that was just awesome.

Shannon, the camp owner, went so above and made his experience as enjoyable as possible and he created a wonderful bond with her. He fell in love with the goats, chickens, and of course Piggy. He got to experience these new moments with his sister, who was a natural on the farm and was equally obsessed. Most of all though, he got to connect and form a relationship with some great kids and an amazing lady. Abby loved the camp as well and was able to meet some new friends, connected with one camper super well. She was obsessed with the animals and a complete natural with the goats and chickens.

Shannon made all the campers feel as comfortable and understood as possible, promoted that independence they all need, and pushed them to experience new things.

I will definitely be sending my kiddos back next year and all the years after. I cannot thank Shannon and Our Sensory Farm enough for the experience this summer! Side note: both of my children want chickens now…Dylan has requested an emotional support chicken, lol!"

ABOUT US

Hello, farm friend! I'm Shannon and this is my adventurous family! We founded Our Sensory Farm with one goal:

Our mission is to make a difference in the lives of others with all abilities by creating a mini working farm and adventure forest that promote inclusive outdoor experiences in an accepting and supportive environment.

As a special needs mom and former teacher, I know how hard it can be for some families to relax and feel accepted while enjoying themselves in a public setting. Our Sensory Farm offers a fun, comfortable and supportive environment in which our guests are encouraged to be their true selves. We are more than happy to accommodate the special needs of all our guests to create a farmventure experience you won’t forget!

We look forward to seeing you soon!
